Injuries linger for Las Vegas shooting victims and their families

The massacre in Las Vegas was one year ago this week. The worst shooting in U.S. history, a gunman opened fire on 20,000 fans attending a concert on the grounds of the Mandalay Bay resort, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more who were trying to escape. Victims and their families are still trying to pick up the pieces, but these injuries sustained in a split second will take a lifetime to heal. The lives of the families of the deceased will never be the same.

Many victims facing PTSD

Survivors of an attack may eventually see their physical wounds heal, but there are other issues they often have to contend with. They now often face feelings typical of post-traumatic stress disorder, including:

  • Fear of crowds
  • Fear of loud noises
  • Depression
  • Insomnia and nightmares
  • Anxiety

Some are coping with the use of medication, but there is no doubt that even those who have returned to work are still facing day-to-day challenges.

Some have injuries that will not heal

Many of the survivors injured in the attack now live with physical disabilities. These include:

  • Paralysis
  • Injuries where bullets hit internal organs
  • Gunshot wounds

Victims and families deserve compensation for injuries

The Mandalay Bay resort has taken a preemptive strike by actually suing the victims who intend to sue in an attempt to deflect the costs of the lawsuit by claiming that it was an act of terrorism. This would prevent victims from suing the resort and its parent company MGM Resorts.

Personal injury attorneys help victims of attacks and their families. Securing compensation helps pay for current and future medical bills as well as lost income that comes from not being able to work. An attorney can help secure needed compensation to augment and support the healing process so victims and families can move forward.
