Recognize the signs of a brain injury

On Behalf of | Dec 19, 2019 | injuries

Many people think that any injury will heal with some time and rest. However, traumatic brain injuries can be serious wounds and it is important for people to pay close attention to these injuries.

People might incur a traumatic brain injury in many ways. The Mayo Clinic says some people might develop this wound after getting hurt while playing sports. Others might incur brain injuries after falling. Additionally, motor vehicle accidents can result in these wounds. Anyone can incur a brain injury; however, sometimes a person’s age may make it more likely that he or she will sustain this wound. Senior citizens, for example, may be at a greater risk for traumatic brain injuries. Adolescents who are between 15 and 24 years old may also be more likely to incur this wound.

There are many signs that someone has a traumatic brain injury. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some people might feel irritable or emotional. They may also have difficulty falling asleep or realize they feel more tired than usual. Some people may also experience headaches and have problems concentrating. When people realize they have symptoms of a brain injury, they should usually see a doctor. Sometimes a brain injury may be more serious, and when this is the case, people may experience different symptoms. Some people may have slurred speech or realize they do not recognize other people. They may also fall unconscious or have a headache that will not go away. When people experience these symptoms, it is important for them to see a doctor immediately.

It is important for people to remember that it may take a few days for symptoms to appear. A person might get into a car accident and then only feel tired or have a headache a few days later. Because of this, some people may not realize that their symptoms are connected to the incident. After people receive a blow to the head, it is a good idea for them to pay close attention to how they feel so they can seek medical attention if they need it.
