After a company sends out recall notices, customers in New Mexico should follow the recommended steps to make sure that they are not harmed by defective or dangerous products. When the products are vehicle components, the issue could become deadly if the company does not fix it.
Here are five major vehicle recall issues from August listed by Cars.com:
- Volkswagen key removal: 679,000 VW vehicles have the potential to develop a buildup on a component of the shift lever that makes it possible for the key to be removed in gears other than Park, which could cause a rollaway.
- Ford and Lincoln seatback weakness: 483,000 pickup trucks and SUVs may be missing bolts that support the manual reclining function, leading to seatback failure.
- Audi airbag failure: 144,000 luxury vehicles may be affected by cable oxidation that leads to an airbag software malfunction and a failure to deploy.
- Toyota replacement airbag failure: 135,000 Corollas and Matrixes may have Takata airbag replacement issues. The inflators on the new front-passenger airbags may be damaged so that the airbags do not inflate.
- Ford and Lincoln seat belt failure: 103,000 sedans contain seat belt cables that could become weak and fail due to increased heat during pretensioner deployment in a crash.
Vehicle owners may want to check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website to check for other safety recalls on cars, pickup trucks, SUVs and motorcycles. Drivers can enter their vehicle identification number to discover whether the specific vehicle has an unrepaired recall issue during the past 15 years.
Safety recall information on international vehicles and some ultra-luxury vehicle manufacturer recalls may not be available on the NHTSA website.
